Mark Diggins is a member of the board and technical commission of the IFMGA

The IFMGA is a worldwide international association of national mountain guide associations. They represent all mountain guides that are members of a country which has been qualified according to the IFMGA guidelines.

The IFMGA, founded in 1965 by the guides associations of Austria, France, Switzerland and Italy, is currently a body of mountain guide associations comprising over 20 countries from Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania, and represents a body of approximately  6000 mountain guides.


Aims of the association:


  1. 1Regulation of the mountain guide profession on a global scale

  2. 2Representing the interests of the mountain guiding profession to government agencies

  3. 3Support of a standard law and regulation for the mountain guide profession

  4. 4Determination of mandatory international training standards

  5. 5Reciprocal acceptance of the qualification

  6. 6Support of free professional activity of the mountain guides

  7. 7Support of national associations, especially during their development toward IFMGA recognition.
