Mark Diggins -
Co-ordinator of the SAIS -
Senior Forecaster - Northern Cairngorms Area
During the winter months Mark Diggins provides snow and avalanche observation information and avalanche hazard forecasts for the Scottish Avalanche Information Service. This process entails daily observations of snow stability, snow accumulation and an assessment of the current avalanche hazard. Following this, bespoke weather forecast information from the Met Office is used to produce an avalanche hazard forecast for the region.
The public daily avalanche forecasts are provided for local display, media and for web viewing on personal computers, tablets and smartphones..
All Scottish area avalanche hazard forecasts are verified daily by the SAIS co-ordinator before going live.
